Biography

b. 1982 / Antalya, Turkey

Born in Antalya in 1982, Meliha Sözeri completed her undergraduate education in the Sculpture Department of Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 2004. She earned her Master’s degree in Sculpture from the Institute of Fine Arts at Marmara University in 2007 and completed her Proficiency in Art in the same department in 2016. She is currently an Associate Professor at Istanbul Technical University’s Department of Fine Arts, where she teaches Drawing, Basic Design, Perspective on Sculpture, Contemporary Art, Performance-Dance, and Music.

Continuing her academic and artistic work in Istanbul, Sözeri has held solo exhibitions titled “Toz/Dust” and “Çevren/Horizon,” participated in national and international exhibitions, and taken part in various events and symposiums. She has published articles and received awards. Her artistic production focuses on establishing a conceptual framework based on themes such as politics, daily life, individual and social relationships, policy, system, and transparency, while also designing interdisciplinary performances.

Her academic interests include Contemporary Art, Architecture, Urbanism, and Sculpture. Her Master's thesis was titled “Sculptural Forms in Architecture from the 1970s to the Present,” focusing on intersections and interactions between architecture and sculpture from an artistic perspective. Her Proficiency in Art thesis, titled “Practices that Invert Perception of Plasticity in Contemporary Sculpture,” examines viewer perception and the inversion of perception within Contemporary Art.

  • Completed her Master's degree in Sculpture at Marmara University’s Institute of Fine Arts.

  • Completed her Proficiency in Art at Marmara University.

Since 2020

  • Serving as an Associate Professor at Istanbul Technical University’s Department of Fine Arts, teaching Drawing, Basic Design, Perspective on Sculpture, Contemporary Art, Performance-Dance, and Music.

  • Her artistic production is based on themes such as politics, daily life, individual and social relationships, policy, system, and transparency.

  • Works in interdisciplinary performance production.

  • Her academic work includes subjects such as Contemporary Art, Architecture, Urbanism, and Sculpture.

2007
