TUNCA, Sencer Vardarman.
At ART15, art ON Istanbul wishes to present an exhibition of works inspired by the formed communal memory of manhood throughout history. By representing Tunca’s and Sencer Vardarman’s works, art ON Istanbul will put forth significant facts that shape the cultural identities of our world. In his project “Desire” , Tunca (* 1982 Izmir, lives and works in Istanbul) focuses on the favorite dishes of the foremost leaders of the 20th century who have redefined the world map. Closely examining the dinner tables of politicians from
Churchill to Mao, Ataturk to Castro, Tunca reminds the viewers that “food and drinking culture” is a sea of notions that reflect the diverse characteristics of single man and society alike. On the other hand, Sencer Vardarman (*1970 İstanbul, lives and works in Berlin and İstanbul) portrays a chaotic order created as a result of men’s conviction. Vardarman’s works serve as a documentary for our realities that are shaped through the domination of stately and religious authorities. Using several mass-media photos to invent his images, Vardarman’s repetitive approach and the manipulative power of imagery lead him to create questioning sceneries that are not real but so true in itself. Influenced by the political and social phenomenon of our world, Tunca and Sencer Vardarman commonly work on the witnessed actualities of distinguished individuals and societies. Yet, their artistic approach and practices lead them to have very unique takes on the subject matter. At ART15, art ON Istanbul will create a fluent dialogue among these works and present a new perception of the world based on the values of faraway civilizations to art lovers in London
